Springstead Village project office officially opened by Cllr Mark Ashton, Mayor of Cambridge

The project office at Springstead Village was officially opened by the Mayor of Cambridge, Cllr Mark Ashton, at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The project office will oversee construction operations on the ground as the development site is built out to provide 1,200 new homes, including a 40% affordable housing provision, alongside a range of other infrastructure, including new parks and public open space, primary and secondary schools, and community facilities. The project represents a significant investment into the local economy, and will create a substantial number of full-time equivalent jobs, both directly, as well as through sub-contractors and supply chains.

The opening event marks a significant milestone, following over a decade of planning for the new community which will provide a development of the highest quality. Bellway  and Latimer purchased the site as a joint-venture project following the granting of outline planning permission in 2020, and have now agreed a site-wide design code which will help to inform the series of detailed applications following consultation with the local planning authority and community.

Ulrich van Eck, Project Director at Bellway said: “The opening of the project office marks a key point in time following years of planning.  The project has involved many key stakeholders, including the local community who have helped to shape the development plans so far. We are very excited to be bringing forward Springstead Village, and we know that it will become a much-loved part of the community for generations to come.”

The office will act as the focal point for the project, and key members of the team will now work from here on a permanent basis as the project is constructed. It features a range of amenities including office space, meeting rooms and a kitchen and is anticipated to be used for the next ten years. Once complete, it will be disassembled and sent to a facility for the parts to be reused and recycled where possible, while the project office site will receive the same high quality landscaped finish as the rest of the development.
