Two showhomes and play area opened at launch of new Kennett Garden Village development

Two showhomes, a sales office and an equipped play area were opened at the launch of a new eco-friendly housing development near Newmarket.

Bellway invited the first visitors to The Ferns, where it is building 160 new homes as part of the community-led Kennett Garden Village project, which is due to bring a total of 500 properties to the area.

Members from Kennett Community Land Trust (KCLT) – which was involved in planning the garden village project and will be owning and managing some of the affordable homes being provided – helped officially open the sales centre and play area, with Prosecco and refreshments provided by local business Nancy’s Vintage Teashop.

The play equipment includes single and communal swings, a mini-fort with a slide and climbing net, a mini-digger in a sandpit, a balance trail and a climbing structure.

Rhiannon Jones, Head of Sales for Bellway Eastern Counties, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to invite members of the Kennett Community Land Trust along to launch The Ferns at Kennett Garden Village. The Trust has been heavily involved in making this project happen, so it was great to show them exactly what we are doing at the development.”

After the VIP launch, members of the public were able to view the two showhomes – a three-bedroom Chandler and four-bedroom Sculptor – and the newly-opened play area. Newmarket-based Fabulous Food Events provided food and refreshments, including burgers and chips, while a face-painter helped to keep children entertained.

Bellway Eastern Counties is building two, three and four-bedroom houses at The Ferns at Kennett Garden Village.

Rhiannon said: “This was a highly-anticipated opening of a very popular development and the sales team was kept very busy on the Saturday with a steady flow of visitors. We thought it would be a nice gesture to hire a local catering business to offer our guests free food and drink as part of our welcome to The Ferns at Kennett Garden Village.

“Now that the sales office is open and we have a three and four-bedroom showhome, we can invite house-hunters along to give them a tour inside two finished properties, which have been expertly dressed and furnished by our interior designers. The Chandler and the Sculptor will demonstrate the thoughtful layout of these wonderful family homes and show people exactly how it could look to live in one of our high-quality properties at this development.

“Interest is high at this eco-friendly site where all homes will benefit from energy-efficient air source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging, with solar panels to selected plots.”

Alongside the new homes, Kennett Garden Village will include a new school site for Kennett Primary School, a new village centre and green open spaces.

The KCLT helped to bring the development forward in partnership with Bellway, The Dane Hill Estate and East Cambridgeshire Trading Company. The trust will be owning and managing 60 of the 150 affordable homes being built on the site.

There is currently a choice of two, three and four-bedroom new homes available to reserve at The Ferns at Kennett Garden Village, with prices starting from £284,995.
