Bellway golf day raises over £42,000 for Cancer Research UK
A charity golf day organised and hosted by Bellway East Midlands has raised more than £42,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Twenty-five teams took part in the Bellway East Midlands Annual Golf Day at Oakmere Park Golf Club in Nottinghamshire.
The event, which started at 8am with breakfast rolls and hot drinks, was hosted by Paul Coleman, Managing Director for Bellway East Midlands.
The golf began with a shotgun start at 9am and went through until about 2.30pm. Teams of four competed and took part in a number of challenges including ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Nearest the Pin’ on chosen holes.
After the golfing action, there was a buffet lunch followed by an auction and a raffle draw which included prizes such as a £150 voucher for a meal at the Fazenda Rodizio Bar and Grill in Birmingham, a bottle of Taittinger pink champagne and a round for four players at the Belfry PGA course in Sutton Coldfield.
The event was rounded off with a presentation ceremony where the winners were given their prizes, which included golf bags, golf shoes and golf shirts.
All the money raised on the day was donated to Cancer Research UK, which Bellway adopted as its designated national charity in 2016. Since then, Bellway staff throughout the country have focused their fundraising efforts on supporting the charity, raising more than £4 million by the end of 2024. The company has now set a new target of raising £5 million by the end of 2025.
Paul Coleman said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at the splendid Oakmere Park Golf Club for making everyone feel welcome and for helping to make the day such a great success.
“We have a special affinity with Cancer Research UK and are very proud of our ongoing and close relationship with the charity. This golf day was great fun, gave us a chance to meet colleagues and suppliers in a relaxed atmosphere away from the work environment and to raise more money for a really worthwhile cause.
“It is good to know that the £42,102 we raised on the day will help Cancer Research UK in its incredible work which includes searching for a cure for this terrible disease that has such devastating effects on the lives of so many people.”
