The 13 students, specialising in construction management, quantity surveying and building surveying, were invited to the site to see properties at the later stages of construction and meet the project manager and the assistant site managers.
They were shown a ‘House to Home’ plot which is a property that showcases the elements of a build that are hidden in a finished house, such as the placement of wiring and pipework, the construction of the internal walls, and the structure, materials and build methods used to support the roof.
Course Director for Architectural Technology at ARU Graham Terry, who attended the visit, said: “This was a brilliant experience for the students. They thoroughly enjoyed it and afterwards they said that it had benefitted them massively.
“I take my hat off to Bellway for offering this opportunity because we are aware we are taking up their valuable time, and we really appreciate it.
“During the visit the students were asking lots of questions. Coming on site helps them understand the processes we are teaching them about in the classroom and allows them to see it in reality. It was also an opportunity to find out more about and better understand the roles of the different people on site.
“I’d like to thank Bellway for offering to host the visit and thank the site team for giving the students this opportunity and answering their questions.”
During the visit on Thursday 12 March, the students were also shown around a property at the more complete ‘second fix’ stage. This is when walls and plastering are finished ready for final additions such as doors, skirting boards, sockets and switches.
They were shown around by Project Manager Phil Taylor, and Assistant Site Managers Eric Karangwa and Lee Ndhlovu.
Bellway is building 194 homes at Beaulieu Grange including apartments and two, three, and four-bedroom houses. To find out more about the development visit https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/essex/beaulieu-grange.
