Students from Bristol Metropolitan Academy in Fishponds, Oasis Academy Temple Quarter in Bedminster and Winterbourne Academy in Winterbourne visited the site off Flowers Hill to take part in a packed programme designed to showcase the wide range of roles involved in delivering new homes.
During the visit, students rolled up their sleeves for a bricklaying masterclass, heard directly from Bellway team members working across different parts of the business, and took a guided tour of the development to see homes at various stages of construction.
A similar event was also held at Bellway’s Rowden Chase development in Chippenham, welcoming students from Wiltshire College & University Centre.
The sessions were organised in partnership with The School Outreach Company, which works with schools and employers across the UK to help young people explore future career pathways. The organisation has partnered with Bellway for the past three years.
Maria Mason, Account Director at The School Outreach Company, said: “Our aim is to make sure all students, regardless of background, have access to the same opportunities.
“Events like this help young people connect with employers, build confidence and see what’s possible beyond their immediate communities. Bellway really understands the importance of opening those doors, and the feedback from schools has been incredibly positive.”
On site, students were split into three groups and rotated through different zones to gain a broad insight into the industry. Activities included a visit to the site office to learn about land, planning, technical and site management roles, a practical bricklaying session, and time in the sales office exploring sales and customer care careers.
Rachel Way, Senior Sales Manager at Bellway South West, said: “If we’re going to meet the demand for new homes in the years ahead, it’s vital that we encourage more young people to consider careers in housebuilding.
“There’s a huge variety of roles available, both on site and in the office, and it was great to share that with students visiting our developments in Bristol and Chippenham. We hope the experience has inspired them to explore a future in construction – and perhaps even a career with Bellway.”
