Bellway staff do their bit to keep Shoebury Common Beach clean and tidy

A team of volunteers from housebuilder Bellway gave up their time to keep a popular beach in Shoeburyness clean and tidy.

Four members of staff from the company’s Essex division, which is building homes at its Garrison Point development in Shoebury Garrison, carried out a litter pick on Shoebury Common Beach.

Wearing hi-vis vests and equipped with litter pickers, the group conducted a sweep of the beach, promenade and grassed area around the beach huts, picking up rubbish as they went.

In all, they collected four full bags of litter, including everything from drinks cans and water bottles to cardboard, bits of wood and even a discarded parking ticket.

Bellway Essex Sales Manager Kate Jones, one of the four volunteers to take part, said: “Putting people and the planet first is right at the heart of Bellway’s company-wide commitment to sustainability and we are always keen to give back to the communities where we build new homes. Shoebury Common Beach is such a popular spot with local families so we felt that doing a litter pick here would have a meaningful impact – enhancing people’s enjoyment of this wonderful outdoor space while helping the environment.

“It was extremely rewarding to see all the rubbish we had collected by the end and to feel like we had left the beach and the promenade looking much cleaner and tidier than when we started. I’d like to thank my colleagues for taking part and doing their bit to keep the beach in pristine condition for all the people who use it.”

Bellway is building 210 new homes at Garrison Point, on land between Ness Road and Barge Pier Road which was historically part of Shoebury Garrison. The development will comprise a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom townhouses.
