A special birthday party for the local community was hosted by Bellway to celebrate the 10th anniversary of work starting at its flagship regeneration project near Lichfield.

Sheasby Park is a new neighbourhood which has transformed the former RAF Lichfield site off Common Lane in Fradley. Since Bellway first broke ground on the site in 2016, 397 homes have been completed at the development, and the housebuilder has also built close links with local people and organisations.

Birthday celebrations were held at the Bellway sales centre, where the special guests were young footballers from AFC Fradley Under 8s, who are sponsored by Bellway.

Darren Peck, the chair of AFC Fradley, said: “We’re really proud to be sponsored by Bellway.  We’ve had a fantastic day celebrating the 10th anniversary with them.”

Also helping to celebrate was Sheasby Park resident Gareth Downie, whose daughter Larna has been selected for England Futsal Under 17s and has also been sponsored by Bellway.

Gareth said: “We’ve been part of the development for seven years now and we really feel part of the community here in Fradley. We love living here. The local community is really supportive.”

At the 10th anniversary celebrations, residents and friends enjoyed pizza, cake, facepainting, football and meeting up with their neighbours.

Resident Kath Caddy said: “We’re loving this event. We can come here, see our neighbours and friends and bring some friends from the village. The boys are playing football and we’re having a little Pimms. It’s nice to come together.”

Natalie Turner, who’s lived at the development for three years, said: “We’re having a lovely day at the 10-year celebration. We go to the school here and we’ve got lovely friends here who are neighbours. We’ve been enjoying the day with face paints and glitter and having a good time.”

The first residents moved into their new homes at Sheasby Park in 2017, and a new primary school, Fradley Park Primary School opened in September 2022. The development also includes landscaped open space, a pond and wildlife habitats.

David Nutt, who moved to Sheasby Park five years ago, said: “We’ve enjoyed the area, we’re right by the canal and there are lots of walks around, we’re in the country. 10 years Bellway have been on site so they must be doing the right thing.”

Tracey Bonnell, who moved in 10 months ago, said: “It’s lovely here at Sheasby Park. We absolutely love it. The local school Fradley Park is wonderful – it’s a brilliant place for the kids.”

To date, detailed planning permission is in place for a total of 625 homes at Sheasby Park, as the land is transformed into a new residential community.

The layout of the linear parks within the development has been designed to pay homage to the history of the site by reflecting the footprint of the former RAF airfield’s runways.

Outline plans for a fourth phase of the development were approved by Lichfield District Council earlier this year.
