Small choices, big environmental wins

Reduce our impact

Resource efficiency plays a powerful role in our wider sustainability ambitions. By reducing waste, cutting water use, and lowering carbon emissions, we not only protect the environment but also strengthen our overall financial performance.

We’re minimising the amount of waste generated per home we build, and when waste can’t be avoided, we focus on reusing and recycling as much as possible.

Making the transition

We’re stepping up our work with Community Wood Recycling, who gave more than 288 tonnes of our waste wood a second life between April and September 2025. Their efforts not only boost our recycling performance but also create real training and employment opportunities in local communities.

We’ve also refreshed our company car allowance and introduced a salary sacrifice scheme, making electric and hybrid vehicles more accessible to everyone. Today, 89% of cars leased through the Bellway scheme are hybrid or fully electric.

Our progress so far

  • We achieved certification to ISO 14001:2015 for our Environmental Management System in Spring 2025.
  • Bellway Home Space, our timber frame factory officially opened in January 2026.
  • Divisions now produce site-level waste league tables, to help analyse waste performance.
  • We have reduced waste produced per home from >11 tonnes down to 5.7 tonnes per completed home in FY25.

Bellway Home Space

Innovation doesn’t replace tradition. It elevates it

New facilities, same excellent homes

Bellway Home Space is our new 135,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, created with the help of Donaldson Timber Systems. It’s where we’ll build our timber frame kits, so that we can make beautiful new homes with a lower carbon footprint.

And because we’re so focused on the future, we’ve also brought in cool robotic technology – from Swedish manufacturer Randek – to make the process even smoother.

The factory is already supplying timber frame kits for our homes, supporting our goal of creating comfortable, energy‑efficient places for people to live.

Our production will gently ramp up over the next few years, with the aim of reaching around 3,000 homes a year by 2030. We’re super excited to be building even more sustainably and efficiently.
