Affordable homes handed over to their new residents at Springstead Village in Cambridgeshire

Homes for shared ownership and low-cost rent have been handed over to their new residents at the Springstead Village neighbourhood in Cambridgeshire.

The award-winning 1,200-home development project is being built north of Cherry Hinton by a joint venture between housebuilder Bellway and Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group.

The first phase is delivering 58 affordable homes – made up of 13 homes for social rent, 38 for affordable rent, and seven shared ownership properties.

The keys to the first 22 of these properties have been officially handed over to the first people to live in them, including one of the shared ownership properties.

The Bellway Latimer joint venture Project Manager, Ulrich van Eck said: “We have had good feedback from these new residents on their new homes and it is a pleasure to receive such positive comments from them.

“Creating a diverse and thriving sustainable community is at the core of what we are building here and so it is vital that we cater for the needs of local people. We carried out extensive consultation with the local community, parish councils and local authorities to ensure we would provide the right mix of homes in terms of size and style as well as affordability.

“The affordable housing element of the project is so important as it allows those who would otherwise not be able to afford to live in one of our modern new-build homes the chance to do so.

“It helps buyers get on the housing ladder and it helps tenants by providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes at a more affordable level within the rental sector.”

The affordable homes that have been handed over are a mix of one to three-bedroom properties including houses, apartments and maisonettes. More affordable properties will become available at Springstead Village in the future, during this and future phases.

The development is being constructed on 138 acres of land that was once part of the Cambridge Airport site. The project has been designed as a sustainable neighbourhood with low-carbon technologies included, such as air source heat pumps (ASHPs) used to heat all the houses.

Springstead Village recently won the award for Best Partnership at the First Time Buyer Awards.

Alex Antzoulatos, Regional Sales Manager at Latimer, said:  "We are delighted to see the successful handover of these affordable homes, which is an essential step in creating the vibrant community at Springstead Village.”

“This development is a testament to our continued dedication to providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes for residents. Our collaboration with Bellway has enabled us to meet local housing needs while integrating sustainable technologies that will benefit both residents and the environment.

“As the development progresses, we remain focused on providing more affordable housing solutions for the people of Cambridgeshire and continuing to build this outstanding community."

There’s currently a choice of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses available to reserve at Springstead Village, with prices starting from £329,995.

Two bedroom shared ownership properties start from £206,000 for a 40% share.
