Barking Riverside’s tallest buildings take shape
Barking Riverside’s tallest apartment buildings to date are now taking shape at Bellway’s Fielders Quarter neighbourhood.
Construction work is well underway on the fifth phase of the development – Horizons at Fielders Quarter – which will deliver 440 new one, two and three-bedroom homes while transforming the skyline of this part of the capital.
Three of the five apartment buildings will exceed 10 storeys in height, making them taller than anything which has been built at Barking Riverside so far.
The tallest of these will be the Hawkins Apartments, an impressive 15-storey structure facing towards Barking Riverside Overground Station and the planned District Centre. The Penney Apartments, and the building which comprises Ferdinand House and Hollingsworth House will both reach 12 storeys in height, while Chipperfield House, Nicholson House and Stevenson House will be within seven and eight-storey buildings.
Homes at Horizons at Fielders Quarter will be sold off plan for the first 18 months, with the first residents due to move into their new homes in early 2027.
The development is to be launched on Saturday 12 July 2025, when the first homes in the 12-storey Penney Apartments building will be released onto the market. This building will comprise 90 one, two and three-bedroom apartments for private sale.
Greg Allsop, Sales Director for Bellway North London, said: “Horizons at Fielders Quarter is the final phase within this part of Barking Riverside, completing this section of the neighbourhood at the corner of Fielders Crescent and The Boulevard.
“As well as delivering 286 new homes for sale on the open market, the development will provide 154 affordable homes for London Affordable Rent or for shared ownership.
“Featuring the tallest apartment buildings to be built at Barking Riverside so far, this is an architecturally significant development which will create an impressive gateway to Fielders Quarter from the District Centre.
“The development has been designed to offer an enviable quality of life, with a residents’ gym, concierge service and landscaped communal gardens on site, while homes will offer private outdoor space in the form of balconies or terraces.
“There will also be space for a commercial unit, while the development will complete the linear park which runs through Fielders Quarter towards the Riverside Campus, enhancing the neighbourhood for new and existing residents.”
Bellway is in the process of building more than 2,000 homes at Fielders Quarter as part of the wider regeneration of the former Barking Power Station site.
Bellway’s homes within Barking Riverside have been shortlisted for Regeneration Project of the Year at the Construction News Awards, while the homebuilder’s The Point at Eastbrooke Village development at Barking Riverside has been shortlisted for Best Off-Plan Development in the First Time Buyer Awards.
Building work has recently completed within the fourth phase of Fielders Quarter – Fielders Quarter West Circus. There are one-bedroom apartments currently for sale and ready to move into, with prices starting from £258,995.
