Bellway donation helps buy presents for children in hospital on Christmas day

Children who will be in hospital in Gloucester on Christmas day will receive presents thanks to a donation from local homebuilder Bellway.
The company has funded toys and gifts for the city’s Pied Piper Appeal charity. The presents will be given out to brighten up Christmas morning for youngsters at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester. There will also be gifts for their siblings.
Bellway has a long heritage of building homes in Gloucester and currently has two developments in the city, Blackthorn Walk in Hunts Grove and Hawthorn Park in Hempsted.
Bellway sales advisor Alastair Clist paid a visit to The Children’s Centre at the hospital to meet some of the staff who work there along with Pied Piper Appeal Fundraising and Events Manager Katy Price.
Katy said: “We are very grateful to Bellway because for us we are a small charity in the grand scheme of things, and to have local support is amazing and we appreciate how generous it is. The donation will go a long way so it’s a big thank you to them.”
The charity plans to buy toys such as building blocks, soft toys and games from The Entertainer, which has a branch in Gloucester. They will be given out to patients and their siblings by Santa on Christmas morning.
The charity, which was set up more than 30 years ago, helps Gloucestershire children by funding items of equipment for The Children’s Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and other county hospitals.
It also helps SEND schools and mental health facilities for children in the county, as well as paying for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families to go on Wish Holidays to make lasting memories together.
Bellway Head of Sales for the region, Daniel Shone, said: “The Pied Piper Appeal has been making an incredible difference to families in Gloucestershire for decades by providing resources, equipment and joyful experiences for children who need them, and so we wanted to support them over the Christmas period.
“We hope that receiving a small gift from us will bring some fun and happiness to youngsters who are having to face treatment and ill health, and to their brothers and sisters who also deserve a treat and to feel special on Christmas morning. We wish them all a happy Christmas.”
