Bellway donation helps improve access to outdoor games at Dudsbury Guide Camp

All groups visiting Dudsbury Guide Camp in Dorset will now be able to play outdoor games at the site thanks to a donation from local housebuilder Bellway.

Previously, only guests staying in the main indoor accommodation at the camp had access to the play equipment kept at the site, which includes giant outside games, balls, and skipping ropes.

But after receiving a £350 donation from Bellway, which is building nearby at its Kingsmere Park development in Ferndown, the camp is going to purchase an outdoor storage container so that the kit can be enjoyed by all young people who visit the site.

Part of Girlguiding Dorset, the 15-acre camp has two fully equipped heated buildings offering indoor accommodation as well as two campsites with outside toilets and showers.

Trustee for the camp Lin Grocott said: “As an ancient monument Dudsbury Guide Camp shares a wonderful natural environment with everyone who comes to stay and use our facilities.

“Our site is used by various youth groups for accommodation, camping and day activities. It is owned and used by Bournemouth Guide Association and is a charity. As we are self-funded it is hard to fund extra equipment.

“It is with thanks to Bellway for their donation of £350 we will be able to purchase an outside storage container to put games in that young people can play with outside. This container will allow all people using the site to be able to access the games and not just people staying in the main accommodation.

“Choosing and playing games gives children lots of skills without them realising including communication, decision making, choices, making friendships and having fun.”

Emily Putnam, Sales Manager for Bellway Wessex, said: “Dudsbury Guide Camp is less than a mile away from our Kingsmere Park development and it is an incredible resource for the Girlguiding community and other youth groups. With its camping areas, woodland and opportunities for woodcrafts and heritage activities, it provides memorable experiences for young people from across the area.

“Providing a container for outdoor games and equipment is a great use of the money we have donated and I’m sure that it will help them create fun experiences for all the young people who visit there in the years ahead.”
