Bellway sponsors disco dome at school fayre in Romsley

A local housebuilder helped bring a touch of disco fever to St Kenelm’s Primary School Summer Fayre in Romsley.

Bellway, which is building new homes at its Harvino development on the former Blue Bird Toffee factory site in Hunnington, around a mile from the school, donated £250 towards the running of the event on Saturday 12 July.

The housebuilder’s donation was used to pay for the hire of a disco dome - a bouncy castle which features music and flashing lights inside – and a traditional bouncy castle for the summer fayre, which was held on the school’s playground and playing field in Bromsgrove Road.

The fayre also featured craft stalls, a barbecue, a plant stall, a cake sale, a raffle, traditional-style games, a treasure hunt and an ice cream van.

Leah Jacques, Secretary of the Home School Association which raises money for St Kenelm’s Primary School, said: “We would like to thank Bellway for the generous donation which helped us provide a lot of bouncy castle fun on the day. At first, we were going to hire an inflatable assault course but that was unavailable so we opted for the disco dome and are glad we did because it was a massive hit with the children.

“The summer fayre is a very important event because it brings all the children and their parents together in a day of fun and celebration which also raises much-needed money to bolster the school’s coffers. It was great to see so many pupils and their parents and carers here having a good time at the end of a long school year.”

Anglela Nurse, Sales Manager at Bellway West Midlands, said: “When Leah approached us to see if we would be able to help support the organisation of the summer fayre at St Kenelm’s Primary School we were more than happy to oblige.

“As a socially-responsible company, we are always keen to support events which make a positive difference in their local communities and the St Kenelm’s Primary School Summer Fayre certainly does that. We’re really pleased that there was a great turnout on the day and it’s lovely to know that the disco dome hired with our donation proved so popular with the children.”

Bellway is building 86 homes at Harvino, as part of the regeneration of the former toffee factory site off Bromsgrove Road. The factory closed in 1998 after more than 70 years of sweet production.
