Bellway sponsors new football kit for pupils at Thornden Wood Primary School in Herne Bay
Pupils at Thornden Wood Primary School in Herne Bay are sporting a brand-new football kit thanks to a donation from local housebuilder Bellway.
It is the latest helping hand the school has received from the company which is building homes five minutes’ walk away at its Oxenden Park development in the town.
Connor Williamson, Head of PE at the school, said: “Thornden Wood Primary School boys and girls faced Reculver Primary for their first match in their fantastic new kits sponsored by Bellway.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to Bellway for supporting our wonderful school. The Children were very proud to be wearing their new kits.”
Mark Harrop, Sales Director at Bellway Kent, said: “With Thornden Wood Primary School being so close to our new development in Herne Bay, it is very important to us to support and help where we can. It’s about building an ongoing relationship.
“After all, I am sure many families who move into our new homes will have children attending the school and it is important to contribute towards the community we are becoming a part of.
“It’s great to hear that the children put on their new kits for the first time at their match with Reculver Primary School and that they wore them with pride.”
Bellway previously helped out the school in 2022, when it was called Briary Primary School, by sending members of the site team from Oxenden Park there to help transform part of the grounds into a space for outdoor learning.
Two teams cleared and tidied an area of the school field that had become overgrown so that children could use it for growing flowers and vegetables and learn about the environment. Nearly three years on, it is loved by the children and adults alike.
The three beds have been used to grow a nursery of trees to create a sustainable source of wood for craft in the forest school. They are currently growing beans and have plans for a pumpkin patch too.
The children have learned about how to look after plants and how they attract wildlife. This summer one of the beds has been dedicated to growing wildflowers for pressings, cuttings and observations. And last December when the school was celebrating its first festive season under its new name, Bellway donated £300 for Christmas tree ornaments.
