Bellway sponsors places for local youngsters at YMCA summer camp in Newark

Bellway has enabled four local youngsters to take part in a host of activities at a week-long YMCA summer camp in Newark.

The company, which is building new homes at The Foresters at Middlebeck in Newark, contributed £900 to the YMCA Scholarships Programme to fund the Camp Williams places at the YMCA Community and Activity Village this summer, organised by YMCA Newark & Sherwood.

The YMCA group runs Camp Williams at the YMCA Village in Newark and The Becket School in Nottingham during the school summer holidays, where youngsters aged between four and 15 take part in a host of daily activities. Itineraries include activities such as outdoor adventures, sports sessions, group games, dance, theatre and drama, arts and crafts.

Steffen Benbow, Executive Director of YMCA Newark & Sherwood, said: “We are so grateful to Bellway for their continued support of YMCA Newark & Sherwood.

“Their generosity in gifting funds for our scholarship programme meant that children from local schools, who would not otherwise have been able to join in, were able to experience Camp Williams this summer.

“Opportunities like this are about more than fun – they build confidence, friendships and life skills that will stay with those young people long after the holidays have ended. This is the real impact of YMCA Scholarships, and we are thrilled to see local families benefit through Bellway’s support.”

Sponsorship of places at Camp Williams is just one of the ways Bellway East Midlands has supported the work of YMCA Newark & Sherwood. The housebuilder contributed £1,000 in September 2023 to sponsor two advertising boards at the pitch at the YMCA Community and Activity Village in Newark.

The developer is also contributing £500 to sponsor the group’s fundraising Speed Quiz night in Newark on Friday 10 October, where teams of up to six will pit their wits against each other.

Bellway East Midlands Sales Manager Fiona Bray said: “It was brilliant to be able to go along to Camp Williams in Newark, less than a mile from our The Foresters at Middlebeck development, to meet the staff and to see first-hand how their efforts help transform and enrich the lives of local youngsters.

“The camp is incredibly well-run and there were so many activities on offer which are designed to introduce youngsters to amazing new experiences, skills, opportunities, and responsibilities as a way of helping them grow in confidence.

“We first established a connection with the YMCA Newark & Sherwood team in 2023 and our relationship with them has gone from strength to strength. We are also supporting the local YMCA branch by offering our new homebuyers a free six-month membership at the YMCA Community and Activity Village, which includes an indoor and outdoor gym, a climbing centre and outdoor all-weather sports pitches.”
