Bellway staff take part in 11-hour hike to support the Youth Adventure Trust

Two employees from Bellway Southern Counties took part in an 11-hour hike to help an organisation that empowers and supports young people through adventurous outdoor activities.
Trainee quantity surveyor Effrosyni Mai and receptionist Caroline Saunders, who work at the homebuilder’s Southern Counties head office in Redhill, Surrey, took part in the Housebuilder Challenge – a 20-mile hike through the Yorkshire Dales National Park in aid of the Youth Adventure Trust.
It is an annual fundraising event for people who work in the housebuilding industry.
The Youth Adventure Trust uses adventure activities to help young people to build confidence, resilience, and self-esteem and learn important life skills. It offers a range of programmes including residential camps, day activities and one-to-one support emphasising empowerment and personal development.
Caroline said: “When Effy and I first heard about the Housebuilder Challenge, we knew it would be more than just a test of endurance, but it was an opportunity to make a difference. Taking part in this event was a personal challenge for us both, but also a chance to support a cause that truly matters.
“The Youth Adventure Trust is an inspiring charity. Their programmes give young people the chance to step outside their comfort zones, learn teamwork and discover their potential. In a world where many young people are facing increasing pressures and challenges, the charity’s work is a reminder of the power of nature, community, and opportunity.
“We are proud to have played a small part in helping the Youth Adventure Trust continue their vital work. This experience reminded me that real growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones. We are already looking forward to taking part next year.”
The pair completed the hike in 11 hours and raised £500 for the Youth Adventure Trust.
A total of 39 teams completed the challenge and there was a gala dinner for all those taking part in the evening. The event raised over £90,000 in total.
