Computer-generated images and a virtual reality tour offer a glimpse of sustainable new homes being built in Rainham
Computer-generated images of sustainable new homes which are being built in Rainham have been released.
The pictures show street scenes and house styles that will be built at Bellway’s Wakeley Meadow scheme in the Kent town, where the first homes are now on sale. A digital virtual reality tour of the development is also available when visiting the new sales and marketing suite.
Bellway is building 39 homes within the first phase of the development, which lies on the western side of the nine-acre site north of Moor Street.
All the homes will have PV solar panels installed and will be highly energy efficient, with heating and hot water provided for the houses by all-electric air source heat pumps (ASHPs), while the four-bedroom homes will also have underfloor heating.
The housebuilder has also applied to Medway Council to build 39 homes on the eastern parcel of the site, where there is currently planning permission in place for 27 homes. As well as featuring low-carbon heat pumps, these homes are all planned to be built from sustainable timber frame.
Bellway Kent Sales Director Mark Harrop said: “Wakeley Meadow in Rainham is one of the division’s first all-electric developments, with the homes here including low-carbon and energy-efficient heat pumps.
“Furthermore, by including electric vehicle charging points and cycle storage, we are making it easier for people to make more environmentally friendly choices when it comes to transport.
“It is also less than 20 minutes from Rainham railway station, which has direct services to London St Pancras and London Victoria, so it is very convenient for commuting to London and travelling to other locations in the South East.
“This is a carefully designed development that focuses on green space and support for wildlife as well as providing high-quality homes and this will make it a highly desirable place to live.”
The development will be accessed via a new roundabout on Otterham Quay Lane. In the first phase, there will be 22 three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and 17 two and three-bedroom affordable homes.
The development has been planned with a central area of public open space and a play area. There will be tree-lined streets and a green perimeter of trees and hedges.
Bellway has committed to investing more than £500,000 in local infrastructure and services as part of the planning permission currently in place. This will include money for education, open spaces, and healthcare as well as improvements to facilities at Great Lines Heritage Park in the county. There will also be some funding for youth services, libraries, sports facilities and footpaths.
Money will be spent on supporting wildlife and the development will include bat and bird boxes and hedgehog houses.
There’s currently a choice of three and four-bedroom houses available to reserve at Wakeley Meadow, with prices starting from £362,995 for a three-bedroom semi-detached home in Bellway’s Tailor house style.
