Festive crafting and tree decorating bring community together at Springstead Village

A festive crafting and Christmas tree decorating event brought people together at Springstead Village in Cherry Hinton.
People living in the new neighbourhood, which is being built by the Bellway Latimer joint venture on the eastern edge of Cambridge, enjoyed an afternoon of cheer hosted by the developer.
The event began in the afternoon with visitors of all ages making decorations and decorating baubles in the development’s Community Room. Then in the early evening the decorations were placed on the tree outside the sales office, and the lights were switched on. Hot chocolate and mince pies were served and children from Teversham CE VA Primary School sang carols.
The vicar of Cherry Hinton, the Rev Karin Voth Harman, was at the event. She said: “Occasions like this help build a community feeling and it was great to welcome everyone so that they could enjoy some fun crafting together and then decorate the tree or simply come along to see the tree lit up and listen to the children singing.
“It was a lovely celebration and an easy opportunity for new residents at Springstead Village to meet and get to know their neighbours, which is so important for this growing community.”

The Community Room at Springstead Village is managed by the team at St Andrew’s Parish Church in Cherry Hinton, where Karin is based. It provides a place for celebrations and gatherings that bring new residents together, ahead of the building of a new community centre planned for later in the build programme.
Karin said: “It’s really helpful that Bellway have provided this now because without it the local community would have nowhere to gather.”
Project Director for the Bellway Latimer joint venture Ulrich van Eck said: “The community is very much at the heart of what we are building at Springstead Village so our festive crafting and Christmas tree decorating event was a great way to get the festive season started because it brought people together. Thank you to all who came and made it a great celebration.”
Springstead Village is an innovative development of up to 1,200 homes being built by Bellway Latimer – a partnership between national homebuilder Bellway, and Latimer, which is the development arm of affordable homes provider Clarion Housing Group.
