Hallen AFC nets sponsors deal with housebuilder Bellway

A sponsorship deal with a Bristol-based housebuilder has allowed Hallen AFC to buy new equipment and pay for training sessions on an all-weather pitch.

Bellway South West, which is building new homes at Berwick Green, off Cribbs Causeway, donated £400 to sponsor the team based just a mile-and-a-half away from the development for this season.

The money has been used to buy training equipment such as new balls, bibs and cones. The contribution has also funded training sessions for the first team and reserves on a 3G pitch on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Hallen AFC, which was founded in 1949, is based at the MB Frames Stadium in Moorhouse Lane in Hallen. The club has about 80 players on its books and runs three men’s teams and sides in the under-18, under-16, under-14 and under-12 age groups. The first team plays in Division One of the Jewson Western League.

Richard Stokes, Club Secretary at Hallen AFC, said: “I wrote to Bellway South West as they are building new homes down the road from our ground here. I asked if they would be willing to sponsor us, as we are a local team, and they graciously agreed to do so.

“It is a great boost to us as a club and to the players to know we are getting the support of a big national housebuilder, which is delivering homes in the area and wants to get involved. We are a community club and depend on such sponsorship deals with local businesses.

“The contribution allowed us to prepare well for the season and give ourselves the best chance of winning promotion into the next division. It also allows us to carry on providing a focus for the community so that people of different ages can come along and play football but, just as importantly, enjoy the off-pitch social aspect which brings communities together.”

Rachel Way, Senior Sales Manager at Bellway South West, said: “Our company ethos is to not only create a vibrant neighbourhood when we deliver a new development but also to reach out to local organisations and help them.

“It is great to hear that our sponsorship enabled the first team to train well pre-season and look forward to following their progress as the season goes on.”

Bellway is building 256 homes in its first phase at Berwick Green and is also planning a second phase of 153 homes. The development will form part of a wider new neighbourhood of 760 homes which will include a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes.
