Homebuilder donates books to school library and presents art competition prizes

Hunts Grove Primary Academy in Gloucester has received a donation of books for its library from local homebuilder Bellway.
Bellway recently held an event at its Blackthorn Walk development in the town celebrating the children’s books of Roald Dahl and invited pupils from the school to take part in a colouring competition.
The winner and runners up were presented with their prizes at the school on Thursday 16 October by Bellway Sales Advisors Mandy Squire and Alastair Clist.
And the Bellway representatives brought along a selection of Roald Dahl books to donate to the school, which is just a 15-minute walk away from Blackthorn Walk.
Class teacher Natalie Hoskins said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Bellway for their generous donation of books to our school. Reading is at the heart of everything we do, and these stories will help spark a lifelong love of books in our pupils. It’s wonderful to see a local company investing in our children’s learning.
“We really value our connection with our local Bellway site, having visited earlier this year. We look forward to continuing the partnership with our eco council later in the year.”
Children from the school took part in the competition by colouring in a picture of a house at Blackthorn Walk done in the style of a Roald Dahl book illustration. The winning artwork was by Year 4 pupil Sara Habicht who received a certificate and an Amazon voucher.
Runners up were Year 1 pupils Max Habicht, and Jaanav Krishna, who each received a Roald Dahl book.
Earlier in the year some of the pupils from the school were invited to Blackthorn Walk to find out all about how homes are built, with a guided tour of the site in hard hats and hi-vis jackets.
Bellway Wales Sales Manager Rhian Reid said: “Our relationship with Hunts Grove Primary Academy is very important to us at Blackthorn Walk because we are part of the community and we are keen to build connections and support the school where we can.
“The pictures we received for our colouring competition were delightful and our sales advisors Mandy and Alastair enjoyed visiting the school to meet the winner and runners-up and hand over the books for the library.
“We hope pupils at the academy thoroughly enjoy reading these classic children’s stories including Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, and Danny the Champion of the World.”
