Housebuilder supports open gardens event in Fradley
Green-fingered residents of Fradley opened their gardens to the public for a summer event that will help a range of local good causes.
The annual Fradley Open Gardens, which was sponsored by local housebuilder Bellway, featured 16 gardens showcasing a variety of horticultural styles.
The event, which took place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June, attracted around 300 visitors over the two days.
As well as admiring the gardens, visitors were able to enjoy homemade cakes and refreshments served at venues around the village, and live music at St Stephen’s Church.
Joint organiser Sandy Carruthers said: “We would like to thank Bellway for its kind donation, once again, which has enabled us to finance our open gardens weekend.
“The organisers’ ethos is to provide an enjoyable and sociable occasion for all participants -from our wonderful gardeners who have worked tirelessly getting their gardens ready, to our army of volunteers who will have helped to sell programmes, marshal the car park, erect signs and gazebos, bake cakes, run refreshment areas and provide first aid if necessary.
“Not to mention our working team who have enjoyed getting the event off the ground and who have put in many, many hours of planning to make this event a success.”
All profits from Fradley Open Gardens pay for grants to local organisations including St Stephen’s Church. The event has been running since 2019 and since then more than £7,000 has been given out.
Bellway is building 624 new homes in Fradley at its Sheasby Park development on the former RAF Lichfield site. It donated £300 to this year’s Fradley Open Gardens to help with set-up and organisational costs such as printing, signs, and insurance.
Rachel Marner, Sales Manager at Bellway West Midlands, said: “Fradley Open Gardens is a delightful summer event which celebrates the horticultural achievements of village residents while supporting deserving local causes in the process.
“Having sponsored the event previously, we have seen how it brings people together and were pleased to support it once again this year.
“As ever, the gardens were beautiful and a great source of inspiration for visitors, who I’m sure went home with lots of ideas for styling and planting their own outdoor spaces.”
