Molly’s card welcomes new residents to development in Halstead

Schoolchildren in Halstead were challenged to show their artistic talents by designing a card to welcome new residents to a development in the town.

The pupils at Holy Trinity CofE Primary School drew the pictures in a competition organised by Bellway Essex, which is building new homes at Oakfields Park.

A design created by Year 2 pupil Molly – inspired by the house in the Pixar animated film Up! – was chosen as the winner. The six-year-old pupil was given two colouring books, a pack of colouring pens and a £20 Smyths Toys Superstores gift card as a prize.

The housebuilder has used Molly’s design to print cards to be posted through the letterboxes of new residents at Oakfields Park, off Tidings Hill. Molly was invited to the development on 10 January to receive her prize and help deliver some of the welcome cards.

Headteacher Sarah Rowe said: “The children were thrilled to take part in the Bellway Essex art competition that involved designing welcome cards for new residents at Oakfields Park.

“Through this activity, they enjoyed exploring the themes related to moving into a new home. The school takes pride in the existing relationships with families in the school community as well as welcoming new residents that come into the Bellway development nearby.”

Emma Hawkins, Sales Manager for Bellway Essex, said: “We are building a new community at Oakfields Park and thought it would be a nice idea to reach out to the local school to help welcome new residents into the area.

“We were very impressed by the quality of the artwork and the depth of imagination displayed by the children at Holy Trinity CofE Primary School. This made choosing the winner a difficult task. In the end, we chose Molly’s brilliant drawing of the house inspired by the animated film Up! as it is jolly and colourful. We think the card will bring a smile to the face of everyone who receives it.”

Bellway Essex is building 80 homes at Oakfields Park, with 52 homes for private sale and 28 affordable homes available for local people through low-cost rent or shared ownership.

The first residents moved into their new homes at the development earlier this year, with 20 properties now occupied.
