Plans approved for 96-home development in Middleton St George
Plans for 96 homes to be built by Bellway in Middleton St George have been endorsed by councillors.
Darlington Borough Council’s planning applications committee approved the housebuilder’s detailed proposals for Killinghall Grange at a meeting on Wednesday 9 April, subject to the completion of a legal agreement.
The development will comprise a collection of three, four and five-bedroom houses for private sale on a 10-acre site south of Yarm Road.
Eco-friendly landscaping will see existing trees and hedgerows retained where possible and complemented by a new planting programme of trees, hedges, shrubs and wildflowers. Measures to help protect and encourage wildlife on site include the provision of wooden nest boxes and swift bricks.
Mark Gabriele, Head of Land for Bellway Durham, said: “We welcome this decision by councillors which will enable us to start work on building a collection of high-quality new-build homes in Middleton St George and help address the demand for housing in the local area. The development will also support the continued growth of Bellway’s Durham division as we strive to increase the number of much-needed new homes we are delivering across the region.
“The mix of properties at Killinghall Grange will meet the needs of a variety of different buyers in this sought-after commuter village, which has good transport links to Middlesbrough and Darlington.
“All of the houses at the development will be from our flagship Artisan Collection, which is a range of homes which has been developed through listening to the feedback from our own customers. The properties, which are built using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern construction methods, incorporate well-thought-out designs to provide the flexible space demanded by buyers.
“We have already received several enquiries from prospective purchasers so I would encourage potential customers to register their interest so we can keep them up to date on how the development progresses.”
Killinghall Grange forms the eastern part of a larger proposed development which has outline planning permission for 330 new homes and various ancillary uses. Road improvements will be carried out as part of the wider scheme, including a new roundabout at the junction of Yarm Road and Middleton Back Lane.
