Pupils asked to design child’s bedroom inside showhome at Staffordshire development
Local schoolchildren put their design skills to the test after being challenged to create the theme for a child’s bedroom in the showhome of a new housing development in Baldwin’s Gate.
Bellway, which is building new homes at its Baldwins Gate Grange development, organised the competition for pupils at nearby Baldwins Gate CE (VC) Primary School.
They asked the children to submit their designs for the fourth bedroom in the Lorimer showhome, inviting them to take inspiration from the local area or a favourite film.
Bellway’s interior designers will incorporate elements of the winning entry when they create and style the bedroom at the property.
The winning design, chosen by Bellway, is a cat-inspired creation by year 2 pupil Indie. Her drawing features a cabin bunk bed with desk and chair beneath, cat portraits on the wall and a ‘Hello Kitty’ sign.
An incredibly detailed design by year 5 pupil Violet earned her second place. Her room features a shaggy rug, a whiteboard, a beanbag, a desk and a lava lamp.
Third place went to sisters Ella, from year 3, and Phoebe, from year 5. Their collage contained colours for the walls and floor and fabrics for the curtains and cushions, as well as a hanging chair, a desk, a chair and a reading corner.
All four received a goody bag, voucher and a certificate from Bellway to mark their achievement.
Leanne Lowndes, Headteacher at the school, said: “It was lovely of Bellway to contact us to invite the children to take part in a competition to design a bedroom for the Lorimer showhome at the Baldwins Gate Grange development.
“The children were given details of the room’s layout and its size and were able to work on their designs at home. They were very excited to have their chance to design a room in an actual house.
“We’re really pleased that Indie will have the exciting opportunity to see aspects of her winning design brought to life inside the new showhome at Baldwins Gate Grange.”
Rachel Marner, Sales Manager at Bellway West Midlands, said: “Collaborating with local schools is part of Bellway’s ethos of building strong links with local communities, and it’s also a great way to give the younger generation an insight into the processes which are involved in building new homes in their area.
“By organising this competition with Baldwins Gate CE (VC) Primary School, we wanted to give pupils an opportunity to use their creative talents to help inspire the interior design for our showhome at Baldwins Gate Grange.
“We were extremely impressed by the quality of the entries and it was extremely difficult to pick a winner. It was a pleasure to go down to the school to present the children with their prizes and we can’t wait to see Indie’s cat-themed design being recreated inside the Lorimer showhome.”
