Residents and site staff at Bellway’s Gateford Quarter development in Worksop support Bassetlaw Food Bank

Food and other essentials have been donated to Bassetlaw Food Bank by staff from housebuilder Bellway.

Bellway is building homes at its Gateford Quarter development in Worksop, and the company organised a collection at the sales office on site where residents and site workers handed in their donations. It continues the support for the food bank that has been given by Bellway at Gateford Quarter while construction there has been under way.

Donations were also given by staff at Bellway East Midlands’ divisional head office in Leicester.

Bassetlaw Food Bank Supporter Engagement Manager Laura Kennedy said: “At Bassetlaw Food Bank we’ve provided an emergency food parcel service for over a decade and know that anyone can experience a sudden change in life circumstances that leaves them needing emergency food provisions.

“We have had a partnership with Bellway since 2023. During this time staff have volunteered, donated materials to make a six-bed compost area to reduce waste, and donated food for emergency food parcels from our needs list.

“All involvement from community members is hugely appreciated as it means that we can meet the needs of those experiencing food insecurity. And to have the long-term support from Bellway means that their impact has rippled across the district over the years and made a real difference to Bassetlaw residents.

“Last year we provided 1,656 seven-day food parcels, which equates to 11,592 days’ worth of food and 34,776 meals. Without the help of organisations like Bellway this would not be possible.”

Since Gateford Quarter opened, Bellway staff have volunteered at the food bank including helping out at its Grow It Fix It project, which is an allotment, orchard and white goods repair scheme. Bellway also donated 250 breeze blocks to the food bank so that it could build new compost beds at its allotments.

Bellway East Midlands Sales Director Steve Smith said: “We have a longstanding relationship with Bassetlaw Food Bank, and we are very happy to offer our help and support to them. Their work is so important and makes a vital difference to people in need.

“No-one should go hungry and it can be especially tough to be in that situation at this time of year, so we were pleased to be able to get the donations to the food bank in time for Christmas. Helping others and making a positive impact is an important part of our commitment to building sustainable and thriving communities.”

Bellway is building 110 homes at its Gateford Quarter development, which is located off Gateford Road.
