Two Bellway site managers in Worcestershire win top industry awards

Two Bellway site managers in Worcestershire have each won a prestigious Seal of Excellence from the National House Building Council for the quality of their work.
Chris Bennett, site manager at Whitford Heights in Bromsgrove, and senior site manager Paul Heath, at Harvino in Hunnington, collected the accolades at the NHBC Pride in the Job awards ceremony for the West region, held in Birmingham on Friday 26 September.
The two site managers followed their success in the first round of the annual competition earlier this year when they were two of just 450 site managers from across the country to win a Quality Award – placing them among an elite group within the industry.
Paul, 38, from Cofton Hackett, said: “It felt good to hear my name called out as a winner of the Seal of Excellence at the awards ceremony. Chris was sitting at the next table to me and it felt satisfying to be playing a part in what was a good night for both of us and for Bellway West Midlands.
“The job now is to stay focused and to maintain the very high standards that we have set ourselves here at Harvino. The high standard of external build and internal finishing of the properties at this site have seen us gain positive feedback from all of our customers.
“For me, communication is also key. That means we have effective communication between the trades and our team so that we can ensure that we get the job done right first time around. We also enjoy great communication between the team and our customers so we can listen to them and make sure they are happy with the home and the service we provide.”
Chris, 35, who lives in Kingswinford, said: “When, earlier this year, I won a second Quality Award in a row for Whitford Heights I was delighted but being selected for the Seal of Excellence is incredible. I had the pleasure of picking up the award on the night, but it really is recognition for all the hard work that the team has put in day in, day out, at the development.
“There is no real secret to success in this industry – you have to put the hours in and ensure that you and your team are on top of every detail. There is no let-up and nor should there be. Our job is to work together to maintain a safe and pleasant working environment, where everyone can reach their potential, and to produce top-quality new homes for our customers.”
The NHBC runs the Pride in the Job awards annually and every site registered with them is automatically entered into the competition. Each site manager is judged on a wide range of aspects of their work including attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise and health and safety.
Nick Edmond, Construction Director at Bellway West Midlands, said: “These awards really do recognise the best of the best. The standards that site managers need to attain to achieve a Quality Award alone are very exacting but to claim a coveted Seal of Excellence is on another level. Chris and Paul are two of just 14 site managers to have reached such heights of excellence throughout the entire West region.
“The finish of the new homes and the sheer quality of the sites at Harvino and Whitford Heights stand as testament to the skill, hard work and attention to detail of those two leaders.
“It is great news for us at Bellway West Midlands that these site managers are getting recognised in this way, and the Seals of Excellence also serve as a guarantee to our customers that they will be buying a property from an award-winning site.”
Bellway West Midlands is building 86 homes at Harvino, in Hunnington, as part of the regeneration of the former toffee factory site off Bromsgrove Road, and 370 new homes at Whitford Heights, off Whitford Road in Bromsgrove, under its Bellway and Ashberry Homes brands.
