Work starts on new 200-home development in Lyneham

Bellway has started work on a new development in the Wiltshire village of Lyneham, which will bring 200 new homes and new facilities for the local community.
The housebuilder is set to deliver 120 private homes and 80 affordable properties at the site off Chippenham Road, alongside public open space including a children’s play area and multi-use games area, and buildings for a new nursery and business units.
The development, called Tiger Moth Fields, will comprise three, four and five-bedroom houses for the open market with a mix of one-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses designated as affordable homes.
The majority of homes will have PV solar panels, while all properties will have access to an electric vehicle charging point.
Christel Hawkins, Sales Manager at Bellway South West, said: “Work is now well underway at Tiger Moth
Fields, and the build programme should see us in a position to release the first homes for sale in early 2026.
“This will be an attractive and sustainable development, delivering not only much-needed new homes, but also community amenities including new green open space, play and sports facilities, a nursery building and units for small local businesses.
“We have worked closely with the local council to ensure that the mix of one-bedroom apartments and two to five-bedroom houses meet the specific requirements of the local housing market.
“Moreover, the variety of home tenures being provided, with affordable rent and shared ownership properties available alongside those for sale on the open market, will ensure that a diverse and vibrant new community will be formed.
“The choice of materials for the construction of the homes, such as red-toned brick and reconstituted stone, reflect those found typically in Lyneham to enable the development to integrate with its surrounding environment and form a seamless addition to the village.”
The land for the nursery building will be located on the edge of the parkland being created on the eastern side of the development, near the play area and multi-use games area.
Meanwhile, there will be 17 units for local business, across two blocks, on the western side of the neighbourhood.
Features to support biodiversity will include new hedgerow and woodland planting, with a new orchard and areas of meadow and wildflower created. 100 bat boxes and 100 bird boxes will be installed, while log piles will create additional wildlife habitats and gaps in fences will allow hedgehogs to forage freely.
Bellway South West’s detailed plans were given the go-ahead by Wiltshire Council last year.
