Bellway donates £500 towards new kit for junior team at Taffs Well RFC

Bellway Wales has donated £500 towards the cost of new training kit for the under-16s rugby team at Taffs Well RFC.

The money has paid for new training tops for the 23 players and four coaches of the junior side, which plays in the blues region.

Bellway is building new homes at its Coed Derw development in nearby Llantwit Fadre.

Ben Atkin, who is one of the coaches of the under-16s team, said: “We want to try to look after the lads at this club so we decided to get a professional-looking set of kit that they can use in training and when they are in the clubhouse before and after matches. This includes the training tops which Bellway have sponsored, as well as polo shirts, gym shorts and training T-shirts which we have been able to purchase with other donations.

“Having these new items of kit will let the lads know that they are valued at this club. Now they will look like a team that means business on the pitch and off it as well, which is just as important as they are ambassadors of Taffs Well RFC at all times.

“When I contacted Bellway, they were really interested in the club and were very eager to help out. It was reassuring to receive such a positive response from a local business as we often have to reach out for help to keep the club running. It’s great to have the support of a prestigious company like Bellway.”

Taffs Well RFC is based at Maes Gwyn and has around 100 players on its books. It runs five teams including a men’s first and second team, a women’s team, an under-16s side and an under-13s team. The first team play in the Welsh Rugby Union League 2 East.

Daniel Shone, Head of Sales for Bellway Wales, said: “When Ben approached us we had no hesitation in donating towards the cost of new kit for the under-16s team. Taffs Well RFC is a fantastic local club which provides a place where men, women and youngsters can play the game they love and also get to socialise and to forge friendships which can last a lifetime.

“Such clubs only exist because of the tireless efforts of committed members like Ben. He not only plays in the men’s first team but coaches the under-16s team as well. Ben has been playing at the club for 11 years and his son Dylan is in the side he coaches and these are the kinds of family connections you often find in local rugby.”

Bellway Wales is building 95 homes at Coed Derw, on a plot of land off Llantrisant Road in the village.
