Bellway starts work on 41 new homes in Tiverton

Bellway has begun construction work on a new development of 41 homes in Tiverton.

Empress Gardens, located on land off Lea Road to the north of the town, will feature a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses. The first properties are due to go on sale in August.

As part of the planning agreement with Mid Devon District Council and Devon County Council, Bellway is to contribute £139,933 towards primary education in the area and £49,405 towards public open space, as well as £23,000 towards affordable housing in the area.

Tim Lund, Sales Director at Bellway South West, said: “Empress Gardens will deliver a range of much-needed new housing for Tiverton and with construction work now underway, we should be in a position to hand over the first completed properties to their new owners in the second half of this year.

“The mix of homes has been carefully designed to meet the needs of local buyers. The inclusion of apartments will provide an attainable option for first-time buyers striving to get on the property ladder, while the variety of detached, semi-detached and terraced houses will provide choice for families of varying sizes and budgets.

“The development is conveniently situated just over a mile from the town centre and is also a short drive away from Tiverton Parkway railway station, making it a suitable option for commuters. All properties at Empress Gardens will have access to electric vehicle charging points, encouraging the use of green modes of transport.

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything Bellway does, and this development will deliver an overall gain in biodiversity on the site. Existing habitats will be protected by retaining the majority of hedgerows on the site while new tree and shrub planting will form a green frontage along the main road through the development.

We will also be incorporating bird and bat bricks into buildings on the site to enable these species to thrive. These measures will not only support local wildlife but also help to create a pleasant environment for residents to live in.”
