Bellway to submit detailed plans for 180 homes after buying land in Cranfield

Bellway has bought a 27-acre site in the Bedfordshire village of Cranfield, where it plans to build 180 new homes.
The site is located north of Braeburn Way and already has outline planning consent for a new residential development. Over a third of the new homes would be affordable housing available through affordable rent or shared ownership schemes.
The project would also see a new car park for community use provided on land to the rear of Cranfield High Street.
Following the completion of the land deal with Richborough, Bellway’s Northern Home Counties division is now finalising its detailed plans for submission to Central Bedfordshire Council.
Paul Smits, Managing Director of Bellway Northern Home Counties, said: “Bellway has a strong track record of building private and affordable homes to meet the needs of communities throughout Bedfordshire.
“This sustainable new development in Cranfield further extends our commitment to the area and we plan to build a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes as well as two-bedroom bungalows for private sale to meet the needs of buyers.
“There would also be a significant number of affordable homes within the proposed development to support people in need of high-quality, low-cost housing.
“With significant areas of green open space, including a children’s play area, mown footways and a wildflower meadow, the project would provide new amenity space for residents and the wider community as well as enhancing biodiversity.
“We would also be investing in the local area, with contributions towards schools, public transport, leisure facilities and outdoor sport and play, as well as creating jobs and supporting the local economy.
“We intend to commence construction works in 2026 subject to planning approval.”
